Kalpana Chawla Medical college stops short of approval

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">KARNAL: The BJP leadership in Karnal, failed to seek a promise from Union Health Minister Sushma Swaraj regarding the opening of Kalpana Chawla Medical College in order to pay tribute to the Indian born U.S. Astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who died in Columbia air crash. <br /><br />The Union Minister was in Karnal on Wednesday, to campaign for Union State Minister for Home affairs I D Swami.In fact, the opening of Kalpana Medical College in Karnal has become a thorn in BJP''s throat. Neither they can throw it away nor implement it. <br /><br />The INLD candidate Ashok Arora who is Haryana''s Transport Minister has been alleging that Sushma Swaraj had torpedoed proposal of Kalpana Chawla Medical College in the city. He further alleged that Swaraj did it in order to avenge her defeat at three successive occasions from Karnal.<br /><br />In a public meeting on Wednesday, Dr. C K Thakur, a local BJP leader, announced from a public platform that Swaraj will give her consent about opening the medical college. A former BJP Minister Shashi Pal Mehta had also stated that Sushma would show proof of her innocence before Karnal voters, but to the chagrin of BJP leaders, Sushma did nothing of the sort.<br /><br />Probably, the election code of conduct might have come on her way to announce any scheme which may be construed as a bait to voters. <br /><br />On the other hand, I D Swami is also facing wrath of Punjabi voters as he and Haryana Chief Minister O P Chautala had earlier announced that Kalpana Medical College would be opened in Karnal. Later, Haryana Government made its intentions clear that medical college would be opened in Kurukshetra. The Punjabi voters now are perturbed if at all Kalpana''s supreme sacrifice would be commemorated in her native town or it is a mere lip service of BJP leadership<br /><br /><formid=367815>.</formid=367815></div> </div>
